TOPIC: Language dependent files

Language dependent files 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello nick_tg,

i found an issue more important than the recently reported things about the missing icon. The setup gives me the possibility to chose the language of the dialogs but i cannot create setups where depending on the choosen language a different set of files is installed. Right now i still have to make for every language i want to support a different setup.
Could this be changed in an upcoming version?

Best regards,
Chris

Yes, it was in plan this feature to be addeed into 1.9 version. It will be an option, for every file included into installation to be linked to a specific language.
BUT, this can be done only for the custom cab collections. You can't have multiple cab creations into one single project. But, you can include the diferente language cab files into a windows installation, added as custom collections, and the user can choose the disered language.
As the other feature, the Icon for the uninstallation, thanks for pointing out this
When I'll return to my development PC i'll post here the 1.9beta with these features. Just wait 4-5 days...

Ok, this feature is implemented.

Download:
www.aperitto.com/media/downloads/ppcic_bin.rar
and replace the executable from the archive into ppcic installation directory.

Also, take a look to
www.aperitto.com/media/downloads/multi_lang_example.rar
contains a example project manager for multilanguage installations.

The language selection is only in the cab collections. So you can create a win32 only project, containing cab(s) created from other projects. Put them all into a project manager, click build all and voila, your windows installation is ready

Hope that this implementation fits your needs.

Hi,

I'm new to this program. I try to use multilanguage support, but besides creating an installation with eula/readme with multilanguage support I can't get it to work and the example supplied by you doesn't work any more.

What I need is to copy a specific file (xxxen.rls or xxxfr.rls or xxxge.rls and so on) to my destination directory as xxx.rls .

Two more problems that I have (minor things)
a)When I add file that has got a recognized extension (like bb.dat where .dat is recognized by windows) then file is added without extension (like bb) and when i create cab i get no bb file error. I need to manually write bb.dat to make it work.

b)On desktop side disk and Files view the left Add button doesn't work. When I press it i get a small popup that tells me what this button is for... I need to use key shortcut (A) to make it work.

PS.As far as I can see it your "tutorial" for basic project is way outdated.. any chances of updating it or putting an example project on the web so I can check if I do everything correctly?

PPS. One more question. How to make an installation (cab files?) that will work both on PPC and Windows Mobile? (from PPC2002 up)

Thanks

Download version 1.9 and use the provided example. But you must press the Build All on the project manager, or build one by one all the cab only projects and then build the win32 only project.

The feature you demanding, to have conditional installation of language depending files at Pocket PC level, can't be done. There isn't any way of doing that at cab level. You must have different cab(s) files for different languages.

BUT, with PPCIC, you can generate windows installers that depending of the user's selected language can install different cab(s) files. So, the result is almost the same
Take a look at the provided example (load the project manager file)

If you have any questions or problems fell free to post them here.

PS: As for the bugs you mentioning, i am hunting them now. Thanks for pointing them out...
